We are a mere 2 weeks from the start of the MIISFFL playoffs, or as the legendary Bill Parcells calls it, the Tournament (tm). We have had a lot to be thankful for this year and as we move into the Christmas season this has never been more apparent. What exactly is everyone thankful for this year?
Tom-A win...any win. Chris Hogan coming back from the shelf might also help, but as Zach can attest, Tom is quite grateful for the W.
Kent-Kent is also grateful for a Tom win as he is now officially one step closer to that #1 overall draft pick. How's the Real League going?
Dewey-He's just thankful there's two other teams statistically worse than he is. The curse of the past champion reared its ugly head once again this year. Dewey has been MIA ever since he lost his recap item.
Nate-Nate's thankful for his hot 3-0 start. He hasn't had much to be thankful for since.
Jeff-Jeff is thankful for a distraction from fantasy football as his nuptials approach, putting out the fuse on the mom bomb for now. Patrick didn't get that memo this week...
Patrick-Patrick is grateful he still has all his fingers and toes as he didn't have to self-amputate after his match this week with the bomb squad.
JP-JP is just happy he's still alive in the playoff chase. The way his team played this week?
Chris-Chris is happy the season is 14 weeks instead of just 7.
Zach-Zach is glad there is no rule calling for the excommunication of league leaders who lose to teams bringing up the rear in the standings.
Nick-Your commissioner is just grateful for the opportunity to represent all of you in the Fantasy League Association of Gentlemen (or FLAG). No seriously!
Bruce-Bruce is thankful the commissioner is considering renewing his invitation to the league in 2018, but no guarantees!
Sean-Sean is just happy not to be in North America because...why would anyone want to be in North America these days?
How did the current leader do? Zach may very well have his item revoked. Maybe I should just cut this item all together. Something about being the featured recap in the mashup is cursed like the cover of Sports Illustrated. Not only did Zach lose this week, he was victimized by the best week Tom has put together in almost 3 years, a final score of 150-116. DeShaun Watson going down , and Zach's ill-fated move to trade for Alfred Morris may prove to be the turning point in his season that looked like it was headed for great things. Let's give credit to Tom though as this was the week Julio Jones made his case for Fantasy MVP posting the highest player score of the season dropping 48 on the Fightin' Mexicos, which far outpaced Zach's top player score of 36 from Philip Rivers (who has still yet to beat the University of Maryland). Zach is still in first place overall, and his lead is shrinking fast, but fortunately he does not see Tom again on the schedule. For Tom's effort, he earns a trip to 2nd to last, for not losing the rights to the #1 overall pick in the draft, to which Kent says thank you very much.
Game of the Week: Playoff implications were dripping in Sean's matchup with the commissioner. On Thanksgiving, Sean put himself in prime position thanks to a 30-spot from Keenan Allen, but his old buddies the New York Football Giants let him down once again as Evan Engram and Orleans Darkwa came up way short of their projections. Meanwhile, the commish got the job done by hitting his projections. Sean led throughout most of Sunday until Alvin Kamara took over. The rookie gets between 10-15 touches per game, but has one of the highest yards per touch of anyone in the game right now and is even looking like an outside MVP candidate. A late touchdown by Kamara put the commissioner in front for good as neither side had a player on Monday night or Sunday night. Nick gets a leg up on Sean completing the season sweep, and with the dominos falling the right way takes the inside track to the wild card and still has a very good shot at the division title defeating Sean 135-121.
Blowout of the Week: Zach's tribulations belong in the blowout of the week and the futility bowl, but since we're interested in diversity here at the mashup, we look at what Jeff's mom bomb did to Patrick. For a while, Jeff looked to be in position to win the weekly pot thanks to Antonio Brown lighting up the Packers for 38 fantasy points. 3 more 20 point scores primed the pump on his powder keg and there wasn't much Patrick could do. He tried to close the gap with a couple of Ravens on Monday night but the damage was done. The 2012 champion is now languishing at 6-6, falling 148-90 to the bomb squad. While only a game back, the number of teams still either tied or in front of Patrick makes a playoff berth a very daunting task. As for Jeff, at 7-5, would he survive the myriad tiebreakers to make the show?
Futility Bowl: Dewey belongs in the item now for the rest of the year methinks. Bruce posted a very respectable 114 points, but his margin of victory would qualify for world-beater status. Dewey only scored 52, failing to crack 60 points for the 2nd time this year. JP may not have won a lot last year, but for the most part his posted respectable point totals. Dewey's team has essentially mailed it in as 6 different players failed to score 6 points, including a 0 from the kicker, 0.6 from his tight end, and a -2 from his vaunted Bucs defense. Dewey needs to give his charges a pep talk to make sure they are at least competitive down the stretch. The playoff teams will thank him.
This week's other results:
Nate (7-5) defeated JP (6-6) 102-85
Chris (7-5) defeated Kent (3-9) 126-83
Weekly Pot Winner: Tom (150 points)
Playoff Picture for Week 12!
If the season ended today:
NFC Champ: Bruce (8-4)
AFC Champ: Zach (8-4)
Wild Cards: Chris (7-5); Nick (7-5)
Playoff Matchups:
#1 Bruce vs. #4 Nick
#2 Zach vs. #3 Chris
Tiebreaker Analysis:
Bruce takes the #1 seed over Zach due to his head-to-head win in Week 9
Chris and Nick take the wild cards out of the 7-5 crowd. Chris gets the 3 seed due to a 2-1 record over this group. He split with Jeff in Weeks 1 and 10 and beat Nick in Week 7 (badly). Nick also has a 2-1 record over this group, beat Jeff in Week 6, Nate in Week 5, lost to Chris in Week 7. Nate lost to Nick in Week 5, and beat Jeff in Week 7 for a 1-1 record, and Jeff is 1-3, splitting with Chris and losing to both Nate and Nick. Chris takes the 3 seed due to his head-to-head win over Nick and superior point total. Now the tiebreaking RESETS for the next playoff berth, down to Nick, Jeff, and Nate (Chris does not figure as he has already qualified). Nick is now 2-0 against Jeff and Nate, Nate is 1-1, Jeff is 0-2. Nick takes the #4 seed.
Obviously with 2 weeks to go anything can happen. Nick plays Nate one more time in Week 14 so there could be a lot riding on that match. Nick also plays Bruce in Week 13, and a win in that match throws the whole chinchilla out of whack. In the AFC, Zach has a Week 14 match with Jeff looming big if he can get past Patrick in Week 13 (big if lately) and Jeff can survive Kent in Week 13.
