Menace Mashup 2018: Week 4

When you are as important a person as I am, often times outside responsibilities preclude your ability to write up quality mashup content on a regular weekly basis.  This is one of those weeks.  It's OK, Tom's going to write his own.....

....nevermind.

Week 4 should've been the once-every-twelve-years MIISFFL car show, but that got sidetracked (or sideswiped?) by a dirty rotten Apple.  Yep.  Nick's iPhone is dead.  May it rest in peace (pieces?).  To everyone holding out for the iPhone XR in a few weeks, I salute you, for I will be participating in the presale bonanza as I for one welcome our Fruit Company (tm) overlords.  In the meantime, what happened in Week 4?

How did the champ do? Zach stumbled out of the gate at 0-2 like just about every defending champion before him.  So a Week 4 matchup with perennial regular season wizard Chris should've been a Nice and Smooth walkover, right?

29 points from D. Watson and 23 more from Julio in a supporting roll, combined with more balanced scoring across the board, were just enough to overcome the 50-spot from Philip Rivers (still waiting to see if he's beaten the University of Maryland...) Adam Thielen' it.  If Chris wants someone to blame, he can look squarely at the artist formerly known as Gronk.  New England laid a 38-7 whoopin' on Miami, but Gronk could only manage 4 balls for 44 yards.  TB12 just wasn't sharing the love.....Zach pulls to .500 and Chris falls to .500 by a score of 127-117

Game of the Week Not a whole lot of great options for this entry this week, but Bruce rises to the top of the heap for the first time, taking over the overall lead with a 121-114 decision over JP.  This follows up a lackluster Futility Bowl loss this week.  JP rolled the dice with Fournette coming back, but he promply pulled his hammy again.  OJ Howard sprained his MCL before making a catch, and that was all she wrote for JP as the injury bug has caught up with his squad fast and furious.  For his part, Bruce was able to overcome a <1 score from Tavon Austin as Melvin Gordon quietly is looking like the top RB pick everyone wanted at the back half of the first round.

Blowout of the Week Nate has 2 early favorites for the MIISFFL Fantasy MVP award with Patrick Mahomes and Kareem Hunt.  Kent countered with......The Cleveland Browns???  I know the Brownies have been the pick du noir this season, but come on?  The Browns?  They're still 1.5-2.5.  That may be 1 and a half wins better than they did all of last season, but their D got jacked up in Oak-town by a previously winless Raider squad.  The rest of the team didn't pick up the slack as all but 3 positions failed to score double digits.  Todd Gurley can't do it by himself.  Le'Veon, Le'Veon, where for art thou Le'Veon?  Nate says thank you very much and looks well positioned to make a return to the MIISFFL playoffs in his new division.  He nearly doubled up Kent 147-77.

Futility Bowl Wow, not a lot of real Futility Bowl entries this week either.  This was about as ho-hum a week as you'll ever seen in MIISFFL.....unless you're Tom of course but I digress.  So instead of picking 1 Futility Bowl, we just HAD to go with 2 of them.  Why?  Both Sean and Dewey had to pull their best New York Jets impersonation and lose to previously winless teams, and in relatively spectacular fashion to boot.  Jeff's season seemed to be stuck in park after 3 weeks, but picking a defense (Green Bay) that recorded the first shutout of the season (Haha Buffalo...they are who we THOUGHT they were) goes a long way to fix that.  That was even with Rodgers putting up a meh 13 points.  Dewey's squad wasn't immune from hamstring-itis as Sammy Watkins pulled up lame and that vaunted Tampa Bay defense was plain gross.  Jeff rolled over the 2016 champ 133-100.  Patrick annihilated Sean 141-117 thanks to 4 20+ point performances and we'll just pretend that Jordan Wilkins was in the lineup.  Chris Carson was inactive and Sean didn't sub him out.  Too much wine over their in ParĂs, monseiur Sean?

This week's other results:
Nick (2-2) defeated Tom (2-2) 119-99
Weekly Pot Winner: Nate (147 points)

I'm just going to leave this here:

"Nick - tough luck for you going against me this week. Can you say hello to 1-3? Even the Browns are better than you this year. You really must be distracted w all the wedding planning. Better luck next year!"

Don't poke the bear.  See you all next week.
