This weekend, Caputo's Corner will be in Ocean City, MD celebrating Summer with Menace II Sobriety. The team will be getting a condo on 83rd Street, but I will be staying with my Aunt in Ocean View, DE...about 15 minutes away from the guys. Our agenda will include a trip to the Ocean City Boardwalk, minigolf, Seacrets (sssshhhhh.......), and of course, the beach. I will be returning on Sunday since I am currently neck-deep in the Maryland STEM ePortfolio Project Summer Academy 2011. Monday is Geocaching Day...SWEET! Should be a fun weekend all around. I'll have a full report upon my return.
In other news, it might actually be happening, but we shall see. Players and owners in the NFL Lockout mess are in the middle of marathon negotiations trying to hammer out a CBA before the Bears and Rams open training camp on July 22nd. Right now, there seems to be consensus on rookie wage scales and a league calendar for when the lockout is lifted, and the two sides are close on how to split the $9.3 billion in revenues. Right now, the talk is that the split will be 60/40 in favor of the owners, but the owners will not take any money off the top for capital improvements as they did under the prior deal. The sticking points right now include how to deal with free agency after the lockout is lifted. Owners would like right of first refusal for up to 3 free agents on the roster. Players don't like that since they feel like top players might get weaseled out of top dollar. Nevertheless, the two sides are closer now than they ever have been, and right now the goal is to have a basic framework for the CBA finished by tomorrow. The two sides have committed to working through the weekend to get a deal done, despite federal magistrate Arthur Boylan (the mediator) taking a vacation day on Saturday. The goal is to have a deal done by next week. I'll believe it when I see it, but Josh might be lifting his moratorium on all things football very soon.
