I watched this game at Dustin's place yesterday, and both of us couldn't help but laugh when the Redskins ran that silly little toss play on 1st or 2nd down for something like the 25th time. It was straight out of high school playbook. What can I say, if it works, and it keep getting you 5 or 6 yards a pop, keep going with it. It did look pretty good though when on first and goal from the 5, Jason Pierre-Paul thought he had the toss play diagnosed...only to see Darryl Young already dancing in the end zone after the fullback dive play fooled everyone. It almost looked like a video game, when you keep running the same play over and over again because something about it always fools the defense.
Other than that, it was a very good game to watch. It was very comforting to see the team put together back to back competitive performances. I still feel exactly the same way I did last week. Why didn't we put together these kinds of performances against the Eagles or Dolphins or Panthers or Bills? Considering in what direction those teams have headed this season, we could easily have had four more wins, which would have given us 9, and firmly in the driver seat in the NFC East. Oh well, I have to admit that it was fun to watch Eli and Coughlin with that perplexed look on their faces as Eli throws yet another interception. The big question now is whether or not we will lose enough to get a premier quarterback in the draft. I think we'll get our guy one way or the other, whether it is by losing out or a classic Danny Snyder trade to move up in the draft to take one. I certainly feel like losing is never in a team's best interest. Remember in 1981 (sure you do) that the Redskins started 0-5, finished 8-8, and won the Super Bowl the next season. It can be a big morale booster going into the offeseason.
We also started 0-5 and finished 8-8 in 2001 with Marty Schottenhemier...but I digress.
If we take the momentum from a strong finish together with a premium QB in the draft next year, we COULD be good in 2012. Considering we'll probably have another last place schedule (yes, I know that only counts for 2 games), and that the NFC East as a whole is a weak division, we could be in a position to make Rex Grossman's preseason prediction from this year come true...next year. Whether he will be on the team to see it come to fruition, let's just say I won't mind if it comes true with him holding a clipboard as [insert rookie QB here] leads the team to the promised land.
One of these years, next year will be this year in Skins town.
