Ordinarily, the NBA is not a point of emphasis here on the blog, but this one is too good to pass up. On Sunday, the Miami Heat lost to the Chicago Bulls (or excuse me...El Heat lost to Los Bulls) 87-86 for the Heat's 4th straight loss. LeBron went on about something having to do with him not finishing the game, not letting his teammates down, yada yada yada.
Ahh, but all that pales in comparison to this gem from the postgame. Now, the Heat only made the honorable mentions of our bandwagon team countdown back in January, but after this one, they might have just squeaked their way into the top 10, with their eyes set on the top spot. Coach Eric Spoelstra mentioned in his postgame presser after the loss to the Bulls that there were a few guys in the locker room "crying" after another tough loss. This statement seems innocuous enough. We've all seen Michael Jordan cry before (but that was after winning a title). However, it then (like most everything else in the digital age) went viral...and now has been dubbed "CryGate." Apparently, grown men crying in a locker room garners national headlines. The coach then had to...ehem...amend some of his previous statements, saying that he didn't actually see tears coming out of their eyes. Then, Dwayne Wade goes all cynical saying that "the world is better now" since Miami is losing.
In the words of that great philosophizer Chad "Johnson" Ochocinco, child please. You want us to feel sorry for you, Miami? I think Stan Van Gundy said it best: "My suggestion would be if you don't want the scrutiny, you don't hold a championship celebration before you've even practiced together." They did it to themselves with LeBron's "decision" and the little party they had before training camp even opened. Might as well not even play the season, right?
Let's face it, this team is only interesting when they are losing...and right now they are losing. They'll make the playoffs, but when they run into the buzzsaw that is the Boston Celtics (and if they're lucky to get past them, the LakeShow or San Antonio), they will meet their match. You can't manufacture championships. You just can't. LeBron never won the big one in Cleveland, even when he had Shaq. So what makes you think that he'll win the big one in Miami with Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh?
In any event, welcome to the official list of the Top 10 Bandwagon Teams of All Time, Miami Heat! Now that the Heat are officially on the list, who get's bumped off, blogosphere?
The Steelers should get bumped off the list because most Steeler fans not living in Pittsburgh have western PA roots. Many left town due find work with the coal mining industry decline or for other reason. Yes like every good team, you have bandwagon fans but that does not make you a bandwagon team... Dustin
ReplyDeleteSteelers Steelers Steelers! Gotta second the other comment for reasons previously stated on your blog. Let me know if you need a refresher on any of my reasons ;)
ReplyDeleteHmmm...guess I should've seen that coming.
ReplyDeleteAt least it appears as if my adding of the Heat to the list does not seem to bother anybody :-).
