Short Take on Wisconsin

Piggybacking on Josh's post/rant on this subject, and as a teacher who is NOT a union member, I just have one question to ask all of these "protesters" screaming about how the state is attempting to eliminate unions and destroy working families.

Last I checked, in a democratic system such as ours, majority rules.  As one protester so eloquently put it on a sign of his, "52% is not a mandate..."  Yes, you're right, 52% is not a manday, but it IS a majority.  So my question is simple, why don't you allow this democracy you crave to work, allow the majority to rule, and stop whining because the majority in Wisconsin didn't want what you want?

And just as an aside, it's hard to root for teachers who walk off the job, claiming to be fighting for the kids, and TAKE THE KIDS WITH THEM!  Meanwhile, Democratic legislators...just run away.  Real responsible, Wisconsin.

  1. Is 41 out of 100 Senators a majority? And yet they control the agenda. Why don't YOU and the Republicans let this democracy thing work before you decry other places where democracy is being infringed. The United States Senate is Ground Zero for the assault on democracy, in terms of both ridiculous super-majorities being needed to pass legislation as well as the disproportionate, anti-democratic representation system that has tainted this great nation for almost a hundred years now.
