Cowboys 27 Redskins 24 (OT)-Game Analysis

At least the offense decided to show up for a half.

No, I don't have any pie in the sky notions for the rest of this season.  It's lost.  At 3-7, there isn't even an outside chance at the playoffs anymore.  The rest of this season will be dedicated to evaluating talent, both currently on the roster and off.  As a fan, it really stinks to know that with still 6 games to go, all we are doing is playing out the string and playing "spoiler."  I hate the "spoiler" role, mostly because I want to be the guy other teams are trying to "spoil."  If you're the spoiler, that means you have nothing to gain by playing the rest of the games.  Your chances at glory are finito.  OK, I guess it would be nice if we play the Giants on Christmas Eve and have a chance at derailing their season, but let's say we pull that off.  What does that do for us?  The answer is not much.

I don't really have much to say about the game itself other than it was nice to see just a little bit of offense.  I guess you could say that we saw "Good Rex" yesterday, whatever "Good Rex" is.  Unfortunately, the defense has fallen back into its 2010 ways of allowing chunks of yards, and allowing teams to pick up difficult downs and distances.  Seriously, there is no reason they should have allowed the Cowboys to pick up 3rd and 15 in the overtime, let alone allow them to get down to the 20 yard line on that play.

Speaking of...there is really no reason why that game should have gone to overtime.  TMQ is going to have a field day with this I know.  When we scored the touchdown that put it into overtime (say what you want about whether or not Stallworth was in bounds...I say he was, and the toe drag confirmed it), why didn't we go for a 2-point conversion?  Why not?  Seriously, Shanny should have challenged the charges to WIN THE GAME right there.  Instead, he took the easy way out and kicked the PAT to leave it to the chance of a coin toss.  Yes, we won the toss, but I knew as soon as we lined up for the field goal that Gano was going to miss.  I knew we wouldn't win even before the coin toss.  Yeah, yeah, real optimistic, I know.  However, I can't think of one good reason why we should not have at least taken a shot at winning the game right there after Stallworth's touchdown .  TMQ would argue (and I 100% agree), that by kicking the PAT, Shanahan took the easy way out so that HE wouldn't get blamed for a loss if we had gone for the deuce and missed.  If we had gone for the 2, I bet we would have got it.  Why?  Dallas wasn't expecting it.  Going for a deuce try there would have thrown them off guard.  They would have been scared since they had a lot more to lose on that play than we would have.  In any event, we didn't, and the team that should have lost did in the end.

Oh yes, I'm still here.  It's the end of the trimester here at RSPS, so I've been pretty busy with school stuff.  With breaks and holidays coming up, I'll try to get back to my prolific blogging rates that you have all grown used to.

  1. Hey, Chin up... You are still in position to draft Matt Barkley first overall...
