Happy Thanksgiving from Caputo's Corner!

I know Caputo's Corner has not been as prolific lately in providing you the quality blogospheric contributions you have all gotten used to, but I would still like to take some time to wish you and yours a wonderful Happy Thanksgiving and my sincerest hope that you get to spend it with family, friends, and the ones you love.  I hope that your turkey is roasted and your potatoes are mashed.  If you are going Black Friday shopping tomorrow...or tonight as I will be doing with Jena (nope, that's not a typo), please do so safely, respect your fellow shopper, and remember that it is JUST a television.

Traditionally, the Caputo clan made a trip up to Carmel to see Grandma.  We'd get there just in time to see Santa Claus at the end of the Macy's Parade, and the glorious smell of turkey would be wafting through the house in a hypnotic sort of way.  Our meal would always start with a serving of baked ziti.  Yes, that's right, baked ziti.  Our family is Italian.  After all, it is "Caputo's" Corner.  However, everybody made sure to leave room for the turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, and stuffing.  I personally am not a huge fan of cranberry sauce, but we have that too.  The next day, the family would go to Jefferson Valley Mall in nearby Mahopac to partake in the Black Friday festivities.  I, on the other hand, always stayed at Grandma's house and watched football (what else?).  We'd always go home on Saturday so that we did not have to compete with our fellow Americans on Sunday...the busiest travel day of the year (NOT yesterday, and don't try to convince me otherwise).  Think about it.  Since most people have to work until Wednesday, some people leave for their destination on Wednesday.  Many people also take vacation time and head up the previous weekend.  Some people (like us) actually head to Grandma's house on Thanksgiving itself.  EVERYBODY heads home on Sunday.  The New Jersey Turnpike is crowded enough.

Today I am at the former command center of Caputo's Corner to partake in a traditional Thanksgiving feast.  The bird is in the oven as I type.  There will be no baked ziti, but mom made ambrosia...delish!  As we feast, we will also be watching football...or at least I will be :-).  I know I missed on the picks last week, but I'm going to give you detailed picks for todays games...RIGHT NOW!  A separate post will come with the picks for this weekend.

Green Bay @ Detroit-Who knew that the Lions would actually be playing in a game that matters.  And this one matters big time.  When Detroit started 5-0, this game was circled on the calendar as a battle for supremacy in not only the NFC North, but the NFC in general.  Detroit may have lost a few now, and Green Bay may still be undefeated, but the Lions are legit, and many comparisons are being made to the 1962 Thanksgiving game in Detroit when the Lions upset the 10-0 Packers.  You know the Pack will come to play, and they better since I got Rodgers in fantasy, but I just got a feeling about this one.  Green Bay is not going to go undefeated, and I got a sneaky suspicion the Turkey just won't taste so good in Wisconsin today.  Detroit 38 Green Bay 31

Miami @ Dallas-After you've been warmed up by watching the Lions and Packers, this would be a good time to take the turkey out of the oven and enjoy your family, because this one is going to be a clunker.  No, I don't plan on watching it.  Dallas will win, and Jerry Jones will finally feel like he's exacted revenge for the ice storm miracle in 1993.  Too bad the parade will have already ended.  Dallas 17 Miami 14

San Francisco @ Baltimore-The "Harbaugh Bowl" that everyone has been talking about since the schedule came out will feature two teams on the up an up.  San Fran only has 1 loss and Baltimore is notorious for playing up or down to its competition.  That's bad news for the Niners since Baltimore seems to play its best ball against the teams that they are not supposed to beat.  Baltimore is a slight favorite, and I feel like it will be close.  Watch Frank Gore.  As he goes, so will the Niners because there is no way that Alex Smith will be able to pick apart that secondary...especially on the road coming East for the 3rd time this year on a short week.  Batimore 24 San Francisco 17

I hope for Baltimore's sake that the Ravens win, because everyone is going to be really grouchy on Monday if they lose.  Happy Thanksgiving from all one of us here at Caputo's Corner!
