Menace Mashup: MIISFFL Week 8

Contrary to popular opinion, the following statements are NOT true:

1) Fantasy football commissioner is NOT my full time day job.
2) I am NOT falling into a state of depression due to my most recent loss and current .500 record (The Redskins on the other hand...I can't really say the same thing).

That being said, I do apologize for the delay in this very important part of your work week.  I understand that everyone, whether you are in MIISFFL or not, looks forward to their weekly dose of the Mashup and your favorite players.  Whether you are a fan of the Jamaal Charles-less Unknown Quantity or Deegan's Field Schoolers featuring Arian Foster, or even if you decided to take the plunge and follow me on your Twitter feed (what's Twitter?), I do sincerely hope that you are enjoying following along with fake football just as much as I am enjoying writing about it.

In any event, let's get to what you really came here to talk about: the match recaps!

The Supreme Being was back in action on Sunday...at least he thought he was.  I don't know if Drew Brees thought that playing the Rams was in essense a bye week, but as far as Kent was concerned, it would have been better for him if he actually did have a bye week.  A robust -1.3 from the Saints "superstar" proved to be the big difference as the Supreme Team puts up a less than supreme 63 points in a loss to Jeff.  Jeff didn't exactly outpace the field either, only putting up 93 points (perhaps taking the fantasy part of fantasy football a little too seriously, but I digress), but at least Jeff can take solace in the fact that for the first time this season...he is in the FIRST RECAP PARAGRAPH!  Jeff improves to 4-4, but in a division with a certain team from Mexico...that does not look very good to reach the postseason via the automatic qualifier.

Speaking of Mexico, Ron, he complained about the waiver system (but who hasn't), and then proceeded to take out his frustrations on Sean, putting up another ho-hum 147 points scoring a nearly 60 point beatdown win.  All those bye weeks in week 8 did not seem to phase Zach at all, as he found quite a penchant for channeling his energies into positive results for him, and really really bad ones for his opponents.  Zach has not failed to score 100 points yet, and puts up 147 in a week when half his starters were on bye AND he had to gripe about the waivers.  Is this a team of destiny?  Sean definitely thinks so.  Jamaal Charles bum knee might have did him in, but at 3-5 in a Pub Dogs division where there is a 4-way tie for first at 4-4, it's still anybody's game.

It's two steps forward and one step back for Caputo's Corner, losing to Matt in come from behind fashion.  Your humble commissioner was up for most of the contest, but the Washington Sentinels made a spirited comeback in the 4PM block thanks in no small part to a career day from Antonio Brown (of course).  Caputo's Corner has made it a habit this season so far of being victimized by career days from players coming out of nowhere to spoil his chances at victory.  Meanwhile, Matt sits at 3-5, tied with Sean for the cellar in the Pub Dogs, yet only 1 game out of first place.  If only the Supreme Being were in the other division this year...

JP finally rights his ship after 3 consecutive losses, taking out his frustrations on Patrick Small who may very well be all but finished in the Greene Turtles division.  JP needed this win to keep pace with Zach who does not look to be slowing down at all.  JP has already split his season series with Zach (handing Zach his sole defeat way back in week 1), and with two interdivisional matchups with Caputo's Corner and Unknown Quantity, he stands a good chance of at least keeping pace for one of the two wild card spots (which if the season ended today he would clinch).  The veritable weakness of the Pub Dogs division could be just what the doctor ordered.  As for Patrick, his draft picks are for sale to the highest bidder.

The Extreme Team gets out in front for the second wild card spot following a 13 point win over Gaz.  Gaz falls back to the pack at 4-4 in the Pub Dogs ending a 4-game winning streak.  The key position in this matchup was quarterback, as Tom used 22 points from Matthew Stafford as opposed to just 4 from Tony Romo.  This is why good fantasy players never trust Dallas Cowboys, or as Gaz put it in no uncertain terms D@@!!T ROMO, STOP DEFECATING WHERE YOU SLEEP!"  Despite this excretory mistake, Gaz is still in the thick of the Pub Dogs pack while Tom probably will need the wild card to qualify for the playoffs from the Greene Turtles division.

Finally, live from Guam, KSo eeks out a 4 point squeaker over Patrick Deegan.  This game was close from the start when Patrick was cheering on Arian Foster, and KSo was wishing ill will toward Chris Johnson.  Needless to say, the torch has certainly been passed when it comes to fantasy stud at the running back position, and Chris Johnson has flamed out.  Despite the attitudes, KSo gets the win to join the 4-4 pack with Caputo's Corner, Gaz, and Patrick Deegan.  In fact, if the season were to end today, Deegan gets the nod for the division title based on having only played 5 division games.  A key matchup this week with Gaz will answer several questions.

On that note, let's take a look at who else is on the docket in Week 9:

Kent-Patrick Small (If Kent is going to get back into it, he has to win this one)
Nick-JP (Division title hopes at 4-4 vs. wild card at 5-3)
KSo-Jeff (Bombs over Guam)
Tom-Zach (Tom with the golden opportunity to get a leg up for the wild card)
Gaz-Patrick (Key matchup in potentially deciding the Pub Dogs title)
Sean-Matt (A preview of Week 12 in Week 9!)

League Meeting is at 1PM on November 20th at the Greene Turtle (only 18 days away)!  That's all I got for now.
