In the words of John Madden: "I love to see a fat guy score...because then you get to see a fat guy spike, and a fat guy dance!"
Well, BJ Raji didn't exactly get a chance to spike it (he was stripped after he crossed the goal line), but Caleb Hanie did what we all thought he eventually would do: the backbreaking interception returned by a defensive lineman for the score that should put the finishing touches on the Bears. I've seen crazier comebacks before, but I don't think this one is likely to happen.
Nevertheless, my comments on the Packers' offense still stands. They had a chance to end it on their own terms, but had to rely on a big defensive play to close the game out. If they play as conservative in the Super Bowl as they did against the Bears today (especially after going up by 2 touchdowns), I don't think it matter if it's the Jets or the Steelers, they don't stand much of a chance. They got to the playoffs on the strength of their passing attack. They have to stay true to their roots.
Of course...no sooner I type that last paragraph...Hanie drives the field and throws a touchdown pass to Earl Bennett. It only took 81 seconds. A defensive struggle is quickly turning into a offensive slugfest. I still think Green Bay wins, but they now have a chance to close out the Bears on offense again. That doesn't mean run 3 plays into the line and let the Bears use their timeouts. Stick to the gameplan that dissected the Bears D on the very first drive of the game!
